The Detective Story by William Wyler, 1951. The starring role of ruthless police officer Jim McLeod was Kirk Douglas. The film is based on the play of the same name by Sidney Kingsley, was nominated for an Oscar and various other awards. The action takes place over one day in a police station, where the detained criminals are brought - very small, like a shoplifter who will be held there all day, and larger, in particular, as a certain Schneider, whom he has long been "hunting" for. McLeod, he's never been nailed for clandestine abortions. In between, MacLeod also deals with a petty thief who stole money from his employer to impress a girl who has distanced herself from him, diving into the higher strata of society. At the same time, he shows his zealous uncompromisingness, not wanting to let the guy go even after his employer agrees to drop the charges against him. Suddenly, the action from the daily flow takes a more serious turn, including for McLeod himself, in the end, everything ends very badly for him. Unfortunately, the film did not make the expected impression on me, although Kirk Douglas plays well, but still the film, in my opinion, looks somewhat outdated, sometimes the actors outplay, including Douglas himself, and some others. Perhaps the entourage plays a role, and the fact that they are often shown close-ups, which further draws attention to the manner of their play. However, the film is not bad, after all, Wyler is Wyler.
